TMPP International Civil Rights Museum Field Trip

On March 16, 2019, the TMPP Protégés took a field trip to the International Civil Rights Center & Museum (ICRCM) located in Greensboro, North Carolina at the site of the old F. W. Woolworths. It is the site where four students from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (the A&T Four) started the Greensboro sit-ins at a "whites only" lunch counter on February 1, 1960 and ignited others around the country to take part in sit-ins and in the civil rights movement.  The International Civil Rights Center & Museum is an archival center, collecting museum and teaching facility devoted to the international struggle for civil and human rights. The museum celebrates the nonviolent protests of the 1960 Greensboro sit-ins that served as a catalyst in the civil rights movement. Protégés had the opportunity to take a tour through the museum’s exhibit and learn about plight of African Americans from slavery through the civil rights error. This was truly an “eye opening” experience for the Protégés. At the conclusion of the tour, the Protégés were taken to the campus of North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (NC A&T University) to participate in a campus tour and visit the statute of the A&T Four. They also had a chance to visit the HBCU Bennett College, a pivotal location for the civil rights movement in Greensboro, North Carolina and throughout the country.
